Elevate your mornings with our homemade fruity muesli. Packed with oats renowned for their cholesterol-lowering properties, and brimming with fruit, nuts and seeds, this is a delicious and yet nutritious start to the day.
Ingredients
100 g dried fruit, such as sultanas, raisins, dried apricots
25g mixed unsalted nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts
20 g mixed seeds, such as pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, poppy
400 g porridge oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
Method
To make the basic cereal, roughly chop any larger dried fruit and nuts, then place into a large bowl along with the seeds, oats and cinnamon (if using).
Tip into an airtight container. Will store for up to 4 weeks.
This cereal can be served as is with low fat milk or fat free natural yoghurt for a quick, yet nutritious breakfast. Spruce it up with some extra fresh fruit, tinned fruit in natural juice, or defrosted frozen berries. Or use it to make overnight oats or Bircher muesli (by adding grated apple).
