Record number of runners prepare for Marathon Challenge Jan 07, 2008Sunday, 13 April is an important date in the diary of cholesterol charity H·E·A·R·T UK. Not only is the charity the co-beneficiary of the 2008 Flora London Marathon, but on that day it will see a record number of runners taking part in the 26-mile event wearing the distinctive red Teamredlaces vests of the charity. “We already have more than 290 runners signed up for the charity and the team is busy taking calls from potential runners on a daily basis,” said Carole Gryglaszewska, Head of Fundraising. “This is fantastic news as we are hoping to raise more than £750,000 from the Marathon, which will go towards our campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of Inherited High Cholesterol (IHC) and how early testing and diagnosis can lead to a long and healthy life. We also need to hear from people with a place in the Marathon willing to run for H.E.A.R.T UK, as a massive Teamredlaces presence will help us to raise awareness amongst those at risk.” Many of the runners who have signed up to run for H·E·A·R·T UK have had heart problems themselves or have lost close family relatives to heart disease as a result of IHC. So with such strong support from so many members of the public across the country, Carole and her team at H·E·A·R·T UK will be able to spread the message further and wider.
