2008 sees with it a host of changes to the previously titled Annual Medical & Scientific Meeting of H·E·A·R·T UK.
Now called the H·E·A·R·T UK Annual Conference, the meeting will be held at the splendid De Havilland Campus, part of the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, close to Welwyn Garden City and within easy reach of the City, King’s Cross station and Luton Airport.
Targeting an audience of up to 300 the remit for H·E·A·R·T UK is to grow the percentage attendance by those working within primary care whilst sustaining the strong representation from secondary care.
The theme of the H·E·A·R·T UK Annual Conference will look beyond risk prediction to focus on emerging technologies, for the non-invasive detection of “end organ damage” in atherogenesis (the formation of unstable plaques in the arterial wall) including new blood biomarkers, dynamic tests and imaging techniques. Clinical and research applications including disease detection and assessment of response to therapy will be covered in keynote lectures from leading national and international experts in the areas of biomarkers, endothelial function testing (pulse wave velocity), IVUS & virtual plaque histology, imaging (MRI, Multislice CT), genetics/systems biology/metabolomics of atherosclerosis.
Topics to be covered:
Keynote Myant lecture:
Continuing on from the success of the first innovative “Clinical Lipidology Live” session held at the 2007 conference, this session will build further on the popular success of the case-based presentations which have featured in recent meetings and is designed to be of real practical value to all health professionals engaged in the management of dyslipidaemia and cardiovascular risk factors. The audience and an expert panel will tackle real cases “live” in an interactive debate that will test the latest guidelines, care pathways and treatment algorithms against good old-fashioned clinical wit and wisdom.
As in previous years, the programme will include “Free Communications” sessions, featuring high quality scientific presentations of the latest findings from leading researchers in the field of atherosclerosis and lipidology, ensuring the broadest range of interest of any UK scientific meeting.
With high quality throughout this promises to be the best clinical and scientific lipidology programme ever assembled in the UK and should make for a truly enjoyable and memorable meeting.
This superbly modern university offers a compact venue with the meeting space being less than a minute’s walk to the exhibition hall so there will be no loss of valuable networking time.
To further maximise the networking time with participants, the complimentary welcome drinks reception will, in 2008, be held in the exhibition hall, preceded by an opening keynote lecture.
In order to maximise the exhibition space available, daily refreshments and dessert only will be served from the exhibition area. Lunch on this occasion will be served in the University Refectory, located less than a minute’s walk away between the meeting and exhibition sites.
Simple yet comfortable en suite accommodation is available at the university. However, for those wishing to stay at hotel accommodation there are a variety of options to choose from in the vicinity.
The social programme will also be enhanced by the conference dinner and dance held on Thursday evening, which, in a change to the usual form, will be held on site at the university and follow an exciting Bollywood theme.
Further updates will be available.
