Anniversary Ball at Blenheim Palace
Olympic gold-medallist Sally Gunnell OBE joined over 100 guests at H·E·A·R·T UK’s Anniversary Ball on Thursday 17 May. The prestigious event was hosted at Blenheim Palace, home of the charity’s Patron His Grace the Duke of Marlborough, to celebrate twenty-five years of cholesterol care.
The glittering event marked the start of an exciting 12 months for H·E·A·R·T UK (The Cholesterol Charity) which recently saw the launch of the charity’s redlaces - keep young hearts running - campaign and announcement of H·E·A·R·T UK as one of the two Official Charities for the Flora London Marathon in 2008.
redlaces took this year’s Flora London Marathon by storm and over 28,000 pairs crossed the finishing line on the feet of runners raising around £15,000 for H·E·A·R·T UK. Sally Gunnell, who completed the Flora London Marathon for the first time in 2007, said: “I was excited to wear my redlaces and proud to help raise more money for H·E·A·R·T UK. Wearing redlaces was something we all had in common at this year’s Flora London Marathon and I am delighted to have the opportunity to attend H·E·A·R·T UK’s Anniversary Ball.”
Dawn Davies, 44, who has a form of inherited high cholesterol called Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH), said “I have had such a wonderful time at this H·E·A·R·T UK Anniversary Ball. I have been moved by the generosity of everyone who came tonight to support this incredibly important cause which will enable more families to have the lives they deserve. So much needs to be done to raise awareness of the risks of high cholesterol. Today I am a Trustee of H·E·A·R·T UK and this is my way of repaying the service that was provided to me by the charity.”
The evening began with a champagne reception in The Great Hall and a tour of the State Rooms followed by a four-course meal in The Orangery. Guests then danced the night away to live music from the Arrhythmics; a cardiology-based rhythm band.
Michael Livingston, Director of H·E·A·R·T UK, said “This fantastic fundraising Anniversary Ball was a great success. H·E·A·R·T UK is dedicated to supporting individuals and families with raised cholesterol, including those who inherit the genetic form of the condition. With the support of people at events such as this and looking forward to the Flora London Marathon in 2008, we can do more to stop the tragic cycle of preventable heart attacks and strokes”.
