H·E·A·R·T UK works closely with many of the lipid clinics across the UK. Many of the lipid consultants and specialist lipid nurses working in these clinics are members of H·E·A·R·T UK. Lipid clinics are based in hospitals and they provide specialist lipidology and cardiovascular risk-factor management for patients at cardiovascular risk.
People seen in lipid clinics include:
· Patients who are intolerant of first-line lipid-lowering treatment
· Patients who do not achieve target lipid levels with first-line
lipid-lowering treatment
· Patients with inherited disorders of lipid metabolism including
familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) and familial combined Hyperlipidaemia (FCH)
· Relatives of patients with FH and FCH who may require genetic screening
· Children with FH
· Patients for whom it is uncertain whether lipid-lowering therapy is indicated
· Patients who may require apheresis - this procedure filters out the LDL
cholesterol from the blood and may be indicated for some patients at high risk
The
lipid clinic website show all the lipid clinics on a map of the UK, it also provides a
searchable UK map of lipid clinics by typing in a postcode. If you know of or work in a lipid clinic that is not listed here, please register the lipid clinic with H·E·A·R·T UK at the
