Mr Brent's family knew at first hand the hidden dangers of FH and following the death of his sister Audrey, Eric made a most generous gift to the Family Heart Association (now HEART UK) to fund an annual lecture for members, to assist in spreading a wider awareness of FH and of its diagnosis and treatment. The inaugural Audrey Brent Memorial Lecture took place in 1989 and over the years speakers of distinction in the field have covered many aspects, including nutrition and diet, exercise, drug therapy, hyperlipidaemia in the young, and prospects for the future including genetic research. There has been publicity for the lectures in the Digest and sometimes in the wider media, and many members, and indeed the public generally, who may not have known of his imaginative support, have nevertheless benefited from Eric's gift. The Audrey Brent Memorial lecture will still be given every year, and Eric's work for the Charity and its members will therefore survive him and continue indefinitely as he intended. Eric Brent was a wise, humorous and life-affirming man - his wide interests, ready smile and love of world travel made meeting him a privilege, and he will long be remembered by all his grateful friends at HEART UK. © Copyright H·E·A·R·T UK Ltd |
