Freedom is a company that specialises in finding insurance solutions for people living with pre-existing medical conditions. Their most successful product is their travel insurance programme, especially designed for people who have either undergone recent surgery or are unfortunate enough to be living with a pre-existing medical condition. Under these circumstances travel insurance at reasonable terms is often extremely hard to find. Freedom provides everything you would expect from a “state of the art” travel policy and then extends it to specifically include the medical condition(s) of the traveller(s). The scheme can be readily adapted to include families, friends and travelling companions, as sometimes, holidays will need to be cancelled before they begin or curtailed mid-trip because a medical condition causes problems. This situation can be covered for the entire travelling party if required. The Freedom initiative has met with considerable success. Several leading charities such as Leukaemia CARE, The International Myeloma Foundation, Terrence Higgins Trust and Action Cancer N I. have entered into Freedom partnership arrangements and H.E.A.R.T UK is currently reviewing the scheme with a view to concluding a similar agreement. Furthermore Freedom is endorsed and supported by many Charities and Trusts within the medical sector and by health provider units within the NHS. Travel Insurance is essential when planning a holiday because illness and accidents can become traumatic and very expensive when abroad. Freedom aims to provide security and peace of mind that will help you to relax, unwind and enjoy your holiday to the full, safe in the knowledge that you are covered by a comprehensive insurance policy should an emergency arise. Freedom is based in Cambridge and proud of the fact that the region contains Papworth Hospital, a national centre of excellence in the treatment of cardiac and thoracic conditions. The Patient Advisory and Liaison Service (PALS) at Papworth is aware of the Freedom project and is prepared to recommend its use. If you have access to a computer, Freedom can be found on www.freedominsure.co.uk. Otherwise call 0870 774 3760 and you will be connected to willing and helpful staff recruited from both the insurance industry and the medical sector. They will be delighted to offer you a quotation or simply explain more about the Freedom project. Freedom aims to be an extension of the care ethic so readily displayed by its partner affinity groups. Caring and responsive staff will answer incoming calls to Freedom HQ. They recognise that certain anxieties and sensitivities may well be prevalent and that these should be respected at all times. All Freedom operating procedures are in strict compliance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act. Once connected to Freedom, the caller benefits from a “one-stop shop”. Unlike many other schemes the applicant is, in the great majority of cases, medically screened, quoted a premium and has cover confirmed in a single call. Premium payment is taken by credit card and policy documents are dispatched within one working day. If this sounds like a call-centre operation, Terry Green, Managing Director of Freedom, would be quick to point out that nothing could be further from the truth. “Although we conduct the great majority of our business exclusively over the telephone, that is where the comparison with a call-centre comes to an end.” “The fact is we like people. We enjoy talking to them and building a rapport. We talk about their holiday destination, the part of the country they hail from and even their football team.” “We give them our names and telephone numbers so they have direct contact with the person they first spoke to. This can be comforting to the caller, particularly if they have a subsequent concern about their policy.” “We give them as much time as they need, so things are explained properly.” “Most importantly, there are no infuriating telephone pad options and mechanical voices at Freedom”. Although the travel programme amply covers baggage, money and a host of other benefits, it is the medical and emergency response capabilities of the policy that are vitally important. The ability of your policy to respond promptly and effectively when needed is the measure of its true worth. Medical related claims are dealt with on a 24/7 basis. Highly trained medical staff and a team of interpreters are on call to deal with your problems. Once alerted, they will manage all aspects of a medical situation from the moment of contact through to ultimate conclusion. Should repatriation be required from a European location, a fleet of Air Ambulances are on stand-by on the South Coast. In the case of longer journeys, the requisite number of seats will be chartered on a wide-bodied jet aircraft. Other less serious claims are dealt with on return to the UK. Freedom staff often receives letters of appreciation from their customers. Some are of a serious nature whilst others are more light-hearted. A few extracts are reproduced below. This correspondence is welcome at Freedom as it provides confirmation that our high standards are being maintained. Mr B of Alloa writes by e-mail: “You’ve been a great help every time I’ve called. Thanks very much and sorry it was last minute again. Please tell your boss about the great job you’re doing.” Mrs J of Halifax: “Thank you for your sensitivity and understanding in dealing with this matter. You are a credit to your company.” Mr & Mrs A R F of Reading: “We wish to formally record our thanks for the service given by the staff of Freedom, the reason why we will continue to recommend the company to friends and acquaintances.” © Copyright H·E·A·R·T UK Ltd |
