About us H·E·A·R·T UK provides up to date information for Health Professionals who care for people with lipid abnormalities. Membership is open nationally to lipid clinicians, medical scientists, GPs, nurses, dietitians and other allied health professionals. There are about 250 consultant members of H·E·A·R·T UK who run most of the approximately 130 lipid clinics throughout the UK and Northern Ireland. They are represented by the Medical Scientific & Research Committee (see appendix 1 for membership) which is accountable to the Board of H·E·A·R·T UK for professional matters including organising an Annual Medical and Scientific Meeting, professional conferences, speciality training, research awards, research and guideline development, and representing the society as a stakeholder with, for example, the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence, and the Food Standards Agency. For the last two years a panel composed in accordance with ACCEA requirements has considered applications for nomination for national awards and the assessment process has been published on the H·E·A·R·T UK website (www.heartuk.org.uk). Funding-raising by the Professional Division of the charity is largely restricted to obtaining sponsorship towards the cost of the Annual Medical & Scientific Meeting and a limited number of other activities, such as PhD bursaries. The Healthcare Committee was founded in recognition of the need not only to provided a forum for discussion but also to provide up-to-date information and opinion for the wide range of health professionals who care for patients and their families with lipid disorders. this committee represents the interests of nurses, GPs, dietitians and physios and works closely with the medical and scientific committee. |
